2019 Edition
Corto e Fieno – Rural Film Festival took place on Friday 4th, Saturday 5th, and Sunday 6th
October, in Ameno, Miasino and Omegna, in Lake Orta, Piedmont, Italy.
Corto e Fieno’s screenings are 100% free (until we have available seats…!) and are held at Cinema Sociale in Omegna, Villa Nigra in Miasino, Museo Tornielli and Baragiooj Farm in Ameno.

Non ho avuto alcun dubbio sulla scelta del soggetto. Il gallo è uno dei miei temi ricorrenti, mi affascina il ruolo che questo animale riveste nel mondo rurale: con il suo canto all’alba scandisce i ritmi della vita contadina, per questo è anche simbolo di rinascita. Inoltre, il gallo mi piace per la sua fierezza e combattività e per i colori accesi che lo caratterizzano.
Giury
Each year, the jury of Corto e Fieno declares a winner in each section of the Festival. The winner of the “Frutteto” (“Orchard”) section receives the “Rastrello d’oro” (“Golden Rake”). The jury’s special award, dedicated to Maria Adriana Prolo, (born in Romagnano Sesia and founder of Museo Nazionale del Cinema in Turin), is the “Zappino d’oro” (“Golden Hoe”). “SAME award” is dedicated to mechanics in agriculture. Two new awards are added to this year palmares: the “Best Beast” award and the “Asilo Bianco” award. The audience hands the “Vanga d’oro” (“Golden Spade”), while the children hands the
“Innaffiatoio d’oro” (“Golden watering can”) for the section “Germogli”(“Buds”).

Davide Vanotti
Davide Vanotti (1972) collaborates on literary, cinematographic and artistic projects. After studying modern letters at the University of Pavia he spent some periods abroad as a writer in residence. He teaches Letters in a high school. Co-founder of Asilo Bianco, he is the curator of Corto e Fieno Fogli/e Scritte. He published the collection of stories Acqua 2 and the novel "La Pietra sopra il Mare". "I diari di Malidor"is his blog.
Paola Fornara
Paola Fornara graduated in Philosophy with a dissertation on Jean-François Lyotard and cinema. She has collaborated with the Turin Film Festival and the Turin GLBT Film Festival, and she has attended various cinema events both in Italy and around Europe for many years. She is a member of the group that organises the Cineforum of Omegna. She curates the activities linked to cinema staged by the Asilo Bianco Association.

A fulminating and amusing story that ironically reaffirms peasant pride in an historical moment of space and technological ambition.

Within a story of hard work and hard life in a farm, this film is able to underline the fundamental support of what mechanics in agriculture means in daily activities.

A complex narrative framework masterfully staged with one shot only is able to reveal all the details of an intense drama within a single slow gesture.
Lionella, Sergey Borovkov, Russia 2018, 15’
In the middle of a suggesting and surreal landscape composed by fridges together with trees, the short “Lionella” describes a silent and unsolved dialogue between old and new generations through the irony of a simple name.

For the silences of a place that goes beyond time and gives shape to the existence of an enlightened woman. In the film the work of people, both manual and intellectual, is not only useful for the human being but it flows into the immeasurable life of this planet.
Raymonde ou l’évasion verticale (Raymonde or The Vertical Escape), Sarah Van den Boom, France 2018, 17’
To a brave hen who decides to start living outside the rules of her community, the same rules that imprison her erotic universe and her animal drives. Her vertical escape is the dream of all animals that force themselves to live inside a moral cage.

Solenne Triduo dei Morti, Andrea Grasselli, Italia 2017, 14′
Si riconosce in quest’opera una rigorosa attenzione per la messa in scena. L’indagine meticolosa delle tradizioni ha avuto la delicatezza di seguire silenziosamente i gesti secolari che accompagnano il rituale della comunità di Malonno. Attraverso dettagli e particolari il regista coglie l’attenzione dello spettatore portandolo alla sorpresa finale di una scenografia che esalta la spiritualità del luogo e del momento liturgico.

1° PREMIO
I racconti del Re, Daniele Di Sturco, Italia 2019, 20′
Si premia l’attenzione per lo spirito del luogo rappresentato attraverso la presenza viva dell’acqua. Il re diviene il personaggio che anima la vita di Bienno. Il suo sguardo sotto la superficie dell’acqua osserva il lavoro dei biennesi e degli artisti da loro ospitati.

Si segnala l’abilità nel rappresentare l’elemento naturale che accende lo spirito di un luogo appartato, facilitando la relazione fisica e intellettuale con l’uomo alla ricerca con la propria identità.
