Xiaohui and his cows
Xiaohui is a boy living with his grandfather in a village in Southwest China. His parents work far away from home. Grandpa intends to sell the calf for family income. To stop him, Xiaohui tries every possible way to hide the cows in the mountains.

Xinying Lao (b. 1997) is a director, writer, and editor from Guangxi, China. Based in China and New York, she is an MFA candidate in the Graduate Film program at NYU. With a background in documentary and a BA in journalism, Xinying has explored diverse stories of people, fostering connections through her keen interest in the impact of individual narrations. Her films, often gaze through a child’s perspective, deconstruct the intricate layers of adulthood, highlighting the genuine essence and vulnerability of humanity. Xiaohui and His Cows (2023) was her second-year project at NYU, which was awarded Special Mention at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2023.
