The 14th edition of the unique Italian festival dedicated to the rural world
Corto e Fieno, the International Rural Film Festival returns in 2023 on Friday, October 6, Saturday, 7 and Sunday, October 8. Three municipalities are involved on Lake Orta: Omegna, Gozzano and Miasino, between the provinces of Novara and Verbania, in Piedmont.
Once again, films coming from all over the world for the fourteenth edition of the only film festival in Italy entirely dedicated to the world of rurality, with screenings, farmers’ markets, and meetings dedicated to cinema that looks at the land, its fruits and those who care for it.
The Mietitura section dedicated to feature films, screened Friday and Saturday at the Cinema Sociale in Omegna, continues to have renewed importance. This year the Orchard section (Frutteto) hosts a selection of Italian short films, Buds (Germogli – Disegnare il Cinema) maintains its focus on international animations and animated shorts. The two competing sections can be watched on the premises of SOMSI Gozzano.
Corto e Fieno was born in 2010 from an idea of the Asilo Bianco with the artistic direction of Paola Fornara and Davide Vanotti. In the rural atmosphere of Lake of Orta, screenings take turn with meetings with small local producers and directors of the films in competition. There will be a lot of contemporary art, too: two exhibitions can be visited at Villa Nigra, in Miasino. L’altra pelle (The Other Skin), by Valerio Tedeschi, and Matrice selvatica (Wild Matrix) by Tana dei Lupi Gentili – Irene Lupia and Giulia Gentilcore. In the meantime, along the Sentiero Nigra designed by Itinerarium, and in the park of the Villa, the wolves by the artistic collective Cracking Art will be visible.
Corto e Fieno will continue with extra events and theme screenings on Saturday, October 21 and Saturday, October 28.
The 2023 poster is signed by the illustrator Paolo Metaldi who, to design it, imagined a “Sheep Revolution”: a herd taking control of the set and giving new importance to the species.
